WHY PLENUM CAT6 CABLE?

These Plenum Rated Ethernet Cable are jacketed with a fire-retardant plastic jacket of either a low-smoke poly vinyl chloride (PVC) or a fluorinated ethylene polymer (FEP) for less toxicity during a fire. Plenum cable can always replace riser cable, but riser cable cannot replace plenum cable in plenum spaces.

Plenum Rated Cables are widely used in commercial buildings which can help to prevent the spread of fire. In commercial building there is an area between floors or above office areas for heating/cooling airflow called the Plenum. If an office catches a fire, this plenum area of the building could easily allow the spread of the fire to more floors or across the entire building. Cables that do not have a jacket rated for in wall cause the fire to become more intense.

* If a fire gets into a plenum area of the building that contains plenum rated cables and still the fire spreads, then these cables will not be blamed.
