What is a Bypass Module? A bypass module is a piece of hardware that allows the remote starter to mimic your vehicle’s key. This means, you can remote start your vehicle without disabling any of your vehicle’s features.

We all love remote starters. On a cold winter day, stepping outside to a fully defrosted and warm vehicle feels like magic. Several pieces of hardware make this magic possible. Aside from the Remote Starts control module itself, the most important piece of hardware is this BLADE-AL Bypass Module.

A Brief History of Remote Start & Immobilizers

A bypass module is what makes modern remote start possible. You see, since the year 2000, many vehicles were equipped with immobilizers. This device does wonders for vehicle security and theft prevention. However, they make the roles of remote start installers and manufacturers more complex. In short, the immobilizer prevents the engine from starting without a key; making the car less vulnerable to theft. In most cases, an immobilizer consists of two devices: a receiver installed in the vehicle and a transponder chip in the car key. The transponder chip emits a unique signal that it sends to the antenna which is communicated to the vehicle’s computer. If the computer recognizes the signal, then it allows the vehicle to start and continue running. This Idatalink ADS-ALCA data bypass module communicates operating commands from a compatible remote start/security system controller to your vehicles onboard computer system to enable direct control over your vehicles functionality.

* Programming Note: Idatalink ADS-WLM-AN1 Android Weblink Mobile, ADS-WLM-AP1 IOS Weblink Mobile or ADS-USB is required for web-programming and sold separately. Additional accessories may be required and sold separately. ** Professional installation is highly recommended.

A bypass module is a piece of hardware that allows the remote starter to mimic your vehicle’s key.

When immobilizers were introduced, aftermarket remote starters had to be installed alongside one of your expensive vehicle keys, or the factory security features had to be disabled entirely. Then came the bypass module to bring back the magic of keyless entry and remote start.

Remember the unique signal emitted by the transponder chip we mentioned earlier? Well, when the dealer installs your remote car starter, they program the bypass module with your vehicle’s key. This way, the bypass module will emit the same unique signal as the transponder chip in your car key.

One of the most impressive aspects of the bypass module is that it allows you to maintain all of the original factory security features of your vehicle. Since the device emits the transponder’s signal, there’s no need to disconnect any of the factory anti-theft features to make the remote starter work.

So you see, this Idatalink ADS-ALCA bypass module acts as the middle man between your remote start and the vehicle’s computer. This simple, yet powerful piece of hardware makes seamless remote start possible on modern cars, without sacrificing the factory security of your vehicle.

What Hardware Do Compustar Remote Starters Use?

Compustar remote starters are compatible with bypass modules made by Idatalink, like the Blade-AL, Blade-TB and the ADS-ALCA (pictured above). Compustar has maintained a close partnership with Idatalink for many years, and continue to rely on their state-of-the-art hardware to make our remote starters better than ever! The type of bypass module installed with your system depends on a couple of factors: your vehicle make, model, the type of system, and your installer. Before having your system installed, ask your Authorized Compustar Dealer about the type of hardware they plan to use to learn more. If your vehicle was manufactured after the year 2000 and your key has a transponder, then YES you do need a bypass module for remote start. If you’re not sure if your vehicle falls into this category (and it likely does) don’s worry, your installer will be able to advise you. Bypass modules are truly fascinating pieces of hardware that make modern remote starters possible! If you’re looking for the best remote starter in the industry, look no further than Compustar. Their award-winning systems are reliable and powerful.
