Steel shot is the ideal material for metal resurfacing, cleaning, and stripping. S-460 Shot, approximately 1.4mm or .046", is used for heavy removal of large and medium sized castings, scale removal of forging and heat-treated work pieces, surface blast cleaning of steel plates, sections and steel structures, shot peening of work pieces, as well as cutting of granite. Choose the size which creates the desired result. S-70, S-110, and S-170 are fine to produce a smooth finish with excellent coverage. S-230, S-280, S-330, and S-390 size shot produce a medium finish with good coverage. S-460, S-550, and S-660 are coarser for heavy iron and steel. S-780, S-930, S-1110, and S-1320 are the largest sizes for the heaviest applications. Use steel grit, irregular cut shot, for aggressive stripping of surfaces.
