MAP Dark Slate Grey Color Guide:
MAP Dark Slate Grey is a gray color with a greenish tint used for the camouflage of naval aircraft.
MAP Dark Slate Grey was introduced in 1939 with the implementation of the Temperate Sea Scheme, used to camouflage RAF Coastal Command and FAA aircraft. In addition to Dark Slate Grey, this scheme also called for Extra Dark Sea Grey to be used to paint the upper surfaces, while the lower surfaces were to be painted Sky Grey or Sky for FAA, or white for anti-submarine aircraft.
RAF Coastal Command discontinued the use of Dark Slate Grey in 1943-1944. Top surfaces were to be painted entirely in Extra Dark Sea Grey. The Royal Navy also abandoned the use of Dark Slate Grey later, just after the end of World War II, repeating the RAF Coastal Command camouflage.
