MAP Yellow Color Guide:
MAP Yellow, also called Trainer Yellow, is a golden yellow ID color used for RAF and FAA aircraft insignia during World War II.
This Yellow color was used to paint the aircraft roundels of types A.1, A.2, B.1, and C.1 respectively.
MAP Yellow was widely used for painting technical markings and stencils.
The propeller blade tips were painted yellow for safety purposes during WWII.
From August 1942, the leading edges of RAF and FAA aircraft were to be painted yellow for identification purposes. Initially this order was specifically for Mustangs delivered under Lend-Lease, but was later adopted for other RAF and FAA aircraft.
Romanian Air Force planes in the late 1930s to early 1940s used British yellow color for markings and identification signs. Later, they replaced this paint with the German equivalent, RLM 04 Gelb.
BS 356 Golden Yellow was used to apply invasion stripes to RAF and FAA aircraft involved in the Suez Crisis. These stripes consisted of three yellow and two BS 642 Night stripes, 12 inches wide for single-engine aircraft and 24 inches wide for multi-engine aircraft respectively.
BS 356 Golden Yellow was used to paint FAA helicopters flying anti-submarine missions during the Cold War. This camouflage included BS 356 for the upper surfaces, while the entire aircraft was to be painted BS 633 RAF Blue-Grey.
