RLM 27 Yellow Color Guide:
RLM 27 Gelb was introduced in 1938 according to the Luftwaffe Directive L.Dv. 521.
The RLM 27 Yellow was used as the marking color for the fuel systems and lines of the Luftwaffe aircraft.
From 1942, RLM 27 Gelb was generally used for the identification markings of Luftwaffe aircraft on the Eastern Front (yellow underneath engine covers, wingtips, and fuselage strips). It superseded RLM 04 Gelb previously used for this purpose.
RLM 27 Gelb was used as the identification color for the 3, 6, and 9 fighter Staffeln and for the 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 bomber Staffeln.
RLM 27 Gelb was also used for the Reichsverteidigung (Reich Defence) tail bands introduced in 1944. The fighters of JG 11 had the fuselage bands pained completely in RLM 27 Gelb. Aircraft of JG 301 "Wilde Sau" had fuselage bands consisting of RLM 27 and RLM 23 Rot. The black-yellow tail band of RLM 27 Gelb and RLM 22 Schwarz marked the JG 5 "Eismeer" aircraft. The JG 2 "Richthofen" aircraft had tail bands consisting of the equal-sized RLM 27 Gelb, RLM 21 Weiß, and RLM 27 Gelb stripes.
RLM 27 Gelb was also used for identification and markings on Romanian WWII aircraft beginning in 1942.
