RLM 73 Green Color Guide:
RLM 73 Grun was introduced in March 1938 according to L.Dv. 521/1.
RLM 73 Grun was proposed for use in Luftwaffe naval aviation camouflage, which was analogous to the standard green camouflage of land-based aircraft. RLM 72 (which was also designated green) was also suggested as an addition to RLM 73 Green in this pattern. The lower surfaces were painted using the standard scheme in RLM 65 Hellblau.
The above camouflage of the naval aviation of the Luftwaffe, which implied the use of RLM 73 Grun, was used not only for seaplanes and flying boats but also for such maritime aircraft as Focke-Wulf FW 200 Condor, Dornier Do 217, and others.
According to M. Ullmanns latest research, RLM 73 was to be replaced in the naval scheme by color 83, which he claimed was dark blue, in 1944, according to Sammelmitteilung 2 of August 15, 1944.
