Cotingas have broad bills with hooked tips, rounded wings, and strong legs. The males have a mostly red spectacular plumage with shimmering white wings that can be seen from a distance. The females are duller than the males. This bird is often seen at fruiting trees, perched high on leafless branches or snags, or flying over the forest canopy.
