Description

Dancing can be a great equalizer. There are no qualifications or status needed. Sometimes the best dancers go unnoticed while some truly awful dance moves go viral. The truth is, everyone can dance. It doesn’t matter if you’re grumpy, happy, or sleepy. Maybe you’re too bashful to dance or consider yourself overly dopey. It doesn’t matter. There are no qualifications to how you move with the music. How we move reveals something of ourselves to others. The best dance parties are unplanned. Someone pulls out a harmonica, an accordion, or a cellphone, and it’s on. You can’t help but tap your toes, twirl about, and introduce yourself to everyone. That’s why I love this scene in the movie. It just happened. By the time it was over, our princess had met seven life-long friends. So, the next time a song starts playing and you and your friends, and hopefully a few soon-to-be friends, start dancing, I hope you realize you’re acting out a ritual that has played out millions of times. Music brings people together through time and space, across cultures and languages. It even allows imaginary characters, drawn by the genius Disney artists, to help us find our way in the world.
