Description

The Cavalier was the N&Ws work-a-day passenger train between Norfolk and Cincinnati, operating on a leisurely 20 hour schedule and stopping at practically every station on the line. The train typically used older equipment bumped down from the more prestigious Powhattan Arrow or Pocahontas and kept its clerestory coaches as late as 1949. A through sleeper with a connection to Chicago was maintained prior to WWII. However, the train also carried a heavy load of head end express and mail traffic which kept the train profitable and important enough to warrant a streamlined K2 or J.
