The MTE-THOMSON engine coolant temperature sensor informs precise temperatures to the electronic injection computer, which is crucial to avoid setbacks and potential harm. Located in several parts of the engine and electronically connected to the ECU, this sensor also activates the fan in newer vehicles ? a function once attributed to the temperature switch ? and cold starts flex-fuel vehicles. This highly accurate sensor is made with ceramics and uses the technology of the thermistor ? a semiconductor sintered at more than 1400 °C, with silver connectors protected by a special brass alloy and precisely fitting electric contacts.

The history of MTE-THOMSON begins under the name MTE, Metalurgica Termo-Eletrica (Thermo-Electric Metallurgy), in 1957, coinciding with the birth of the automotive industry in Brazil.
