What is mother of pearl?
Mother of pearl is the natural lined crystals of calcium carbonate on sea shells. These crystals produce iridescent colors when reflecting light. Sea shell crafting has been popular in Asia since the Goryeo dynasty 932-1392.

How is it made?
- Sea shells are pressed into a mother of pearl sheet
- A design is printed directly onto the MOP sheet
- Layering of protective epoxy resin coating is applied by hand
- The MOP sheet is put into an oven to glaze and harden
- Lastly the MOP sheet is sealed onto a metal case
- The end result is a shiny gloss finish that is luminous reflecting light!
