Description

Offered is a Miami Amigos 1979 Class AAA Minor League New Era Baseball Hat Size 7 1/8. Multi-color hat with red and green "MA" letters on the front, with New Era label and size "7-1/8" tag on the interior sweat band. The brainchild of Cuban exile Bobby Maduro, the Inter-American League fielded six teams for just a partial three-month season in 1979. Playing at the AAA level, this short-lived, high level pro baseball league included an international array of teams from the USA, Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. The U.S. team was the Miami Amigos, which featured eighteen former Major Leaguers on its roster, including player-manager Davey Johnson. Plagued by tropical storms, shaky air travel, under-funded owners and strong competition for fan support by more established Caribbean based teams, the Inter-American League folded after just three months of play. The Amigos were certainly the kings of this interesting league, ending up with a 51-21 record and a ten-game lead over the next best squad, the Caracas Metropolitanos.
