From the Manufacturer

The air-powered 3M™ Disc Sander 28328 runs at 12,000 RPM and can be used with any 3M™ Roloc™ product 2" or less with an RPM rating of at least 12,000. It is ideal for small-scale grinding and deburring applications as well as paint prep and weld burn clean-up. To increase operator precision and help eliminate rework, the tool includes a variable speed control feature. Built with operator comfort in mind, this sander has a lightweight, compact design and a 97-degree head that allows for greater wrist comfort and control during use. It includes a comfortable full coverage composite grip that absorbs vibration and moderates cold temperatures caused by air flow. In addition, the 0.3 hp motor is precision balanced to ensure smoother and quieter operation than that of competitive sanders.

The necessary air power supply and hose are sold separately. The dual mount feature allows direct mount of Roloc products without a collet for convenience, greater visibility, and maximum control; or collet mount for extended reach. When used with the collet chuck the sander may also function as a die grinder for use with specialty abrasives such as cross buffs and cartridge rolls. Use only with disc pads and abrasive products that have a Max RPM of at least 12,000.

3M™ Roloc™ Disc Pad Included for Optimal Performance

Included with the tool is a 2" Roloc TR Hard Disc Pad 45096, which mounts directly to the tools 1/4-20 external threaded shaft without a collet and provides convenient and secure attachment for any Roloc disc or bristle product with a TR button. Disc Sander 28328 delivers optimal performance when paired with other 3M products, and is designed to be used with 2" Roloc disc pads as well as other coated and surface conditioning products used for sanding metals, wood, stone, plastics, and other materials.

Using Your Pneumatic Sander

This tool runs on power generated by an air compressor (air hose and air compressor sold separately). Use a clean lubricated air supply that will give a measured air pressure of 23 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) and 6.2 bar or 90 pounds per square inch (psi) at the tool, i.e. the point where the air hose is connected to the tool, when the tool is running with the level fully depressed. The tool can be run at lower pressures but should never be run higher than 6.2 bar (90 psi). If run at lower pressure the performance of the tool is reduced. The recommended airline is an approved 3/8 inch (10 mm) airline at the minimum length required for the application, with a maximum length of 25 feet (8 m). For more details about connecting the tool to your air supply, see the Instruction Manual.

About the 3M™ Roloc™ System

The 3M™ Roloc™ TR quick attachment system was designed to provide a quick, secure attachment for products ranging in diameter from 1 to 4 inches. Roloc disc pads come in various densities or hardness levels depending on the requirements of the application. The hardness ranges from extra hard to soft, where the rule of thumb is the coarser the abrasive, the harder the disc pad one should use, which promotes longer life of the product. The disc pad (also called a backup pad) interlocks with the sanding disc or bristle disc and attaches directly to a 3M disc sander. This simple assembly provides a secure attachment that is reliable even when working at high speeds. Combining a Roloc abrasive disc with a Roloc disc pad provides high-quality, consistent results.
