Description

In Mexico there are two types of crafts with designation of origin, the Talavera Poblana and the Lacas de Olinala Guerrero. The Olinala boxes are made of “LINALOE” wood that gives off a lemony essence; and covered with a pre-Hispanic technique called “MAQUE” which is a mixture of a white mineral powder called “TLAPILOL”, which must be carved on the piece, with your hands or with river stones or quartz so that the surface is smooth. To seal the “MAQUE”, a mixture of sandy minerals called “TECOXTLE” is applied, combined with chia or linseed oil, to give it a semi-glossy finish, and left to dry for 6 to 8 days. Once dry, the color is applied with “TOLTE”, a mineral that is combined with natural colors based on flowers, plants, minerals or seeds. In this last layer of natural pigment, the box is decorated using the STRIPING techniques. STITCHING, GOLDEN and LAMINATED IN GOLD or SILVER, using as a brush a maguey or guizache thorn mounted on a turkey feather, as well as hair from animals from the same region, to recreate the flora and fauna of this region using the imagination. little corner of Mexico.
