Description

15th century, Henry V of England (Laurence Olivier), succeeds his father Henry IV on the throne and leaves the restless life to become a responsible monarch. A major issue at the beginning of his reign was the dispute between England and France that lasted 80 years. Henry decides to organize a campaign against France. In September 1415, the English army besieged the castle of Arfleur, where it met the crash. Henry, then weakened, leads his men against the French countryside with the aim of capturing Calais. On his way to Calais, however, he finds organized French resistance at Agincourt. The French army outnumbers the English, yet Henrys strategic mind leads the English to victory, resulting in the decimation of the French army. Henry occupies Northern France and the war ends in 1420, with his marriage to Catherine of Valois (Rene Asherson), daughter of the King of France, Charles VI (Harcourt Williams).
