Hold It Mate fits ONLY Vertical Spindle SystemsCode across the US is fairly consistent with a 4" space between the spindles. Please measure before you order - Out of date wide spaced spindles will not work. Only up to 5" opening between will work, but anything built in the last 25-30 years is usually 4" or less. |
Inserting the sleeve nut into the recessed holeThe Sleeve Nut is what will hold the carriage bolt, it is vital you insert this into the recessed side of the 6" mounting rails. Using the recessed side allows for accessory attachment over the nut, as well as allowing proper fitment of the bolts into the sleeve nut. This is the number 2 reason customers have installation issues - please insert the sleeve nut into the recessed side. |
Bolt Options - Choose ProperlyThe Bolt that is the correct length for you will be equal to or just slightly longer that the width/thickness of your spindles.
|
Follow this guide direction closely, makes for easier attachment!Just turn the bolts into the sleeve nuts enough to hold it in place, this will allow easier connecting to the spindles. |

Slide the newly connected bolt into the keyhole slotOnce connecting both shorter rails to the longer mounting rail, hold the long rail up level, while the smaller rails hang vertically - allowing you to insert the shorter rails through your spindles. Turning in the bolts at a minimum as mentioned in the last step, allows for space to turn the short mounting rails horizontal, if the bolts are in too far, you wont be able to turn the small mounting rails. Simply snug one side up enough for it to hold, not tight...then snug up the other side. Now ensure you a level using a level or your eye - using the top handrail as a level guide works well. Once level, snug up the bolts. |
Hanging the short rails verticallyThis allows the short mounting rails to pass through the spindle space. Once both sides are through, simply turn (one) small mounting rail horizontal and slightly tighten, just enough to hang onto the spindles...then turn the other small rail, both should straddle the spindles evenly - like the next picture shows. Make sure they are level and tighten, but not too much! |
Never Over Tighten the BoltsUsing too long of a bolt will not allow the system to get snug with your spindles, use the next size down if this is the case. The main reason for issues is THIS! If the system is not tight to the spindles, it is always because too long of a bolt was used and the bolt ran out of tightening room in the sleeve nut. |
