Description

Measuring 520 feet in length, the HMS Fearless served 37 years in the Royal Navy, taking to the seas in 1965 as an amphibious warfare ship featuring an internal transport dock for easy transitions of amphibious vehicles and troops to drive straight off the ship and straight into battle. Known as an LPD, Landing Platform Dock, the HMS Fearless was aptly named as it could transport a significant number of troops, around 400 with room to spare for all the military vehicles needed when beaching in hostile situations and unload and depart quickly. The LPD is considered one of the most versatile ships in the fleet, and one of the many reasons it had such a successfully long career, although it was the last steam powered vessels before it was retired in 2002.
