Description

Dwight “Doc” Gooden is known by many for his 98 MPH fastball and intimidating curveball nicknamed “Lord Charles”, a contrast to the common curveball nicknamed “Uncle Charlie”. He began his career in 1984 with the New York Mets, and finished the season winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award. In 1995, he earned the Triple Crown and won the NL Cy Young Award. Gooden was a key part of the Mets success in 1986, and they went on to win their second World Series title in franchise history. In 2010, he was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame.
