Because the furniture does not happen to be a flat plane, so the low points of cover will collect water and debris. It will shorten the lifetime of cover with time going.
We recommend you to put a wooden stick or round thing on the table to raise up the cover so that the water and debris can be flow down through the line.
The raised part also can provide airflow between cover and furniture. Helps the furniture cover and furniture remain dry.
