This Red Sidemarker Light has a Chrome Finished Housing which protects the Top and bottom of the light from accidental bumps and hits which could potentially damage the lens. In addition, the Bulb inside the Lens and Housing is seated into the light using a Shock dampening Rubber grommet insert, which aids in protecting the bulb and its brittle filament during bumps and travel, so you dont have to worry about the bulb going out due to normal wear and use. The Armored Housing has a Flat Back design which makes this light a surface mount style Side Marker Light. It shines light in a wide arc, allowing you to see it from head on but also from the side, so it can act as a clearance light as well depending on where on your trailer it is located.
