All About Substrate Barrier
What does it do?
- Separates false bottom and substrate
- Prevents a clogged false bottom
- Prevents the wicking of water from the false bottom into the other substrate layers
- Extends the life of the substrate
Each piece of Joshs Frogs Substrate Barrier measures approximately 18" x 24"
Using Substrate Barrier
Prep:
Substrate Barrier can be cut or folded to fit the bottom of your terrarium. It should be placed on top of your false bottom before adding your substrate.
Joshs Frogs recommends using Substrate Barrier in conjunction with False Bottom, ABG Mix, Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss, and Leaf Litter.
Caution:
When using in a vivarium, make sure your Substrate Barrier is snug to the edge of the tank so that substrate does not fall into the false bottom, as this will quickly result in a saturated, sopping wet mess that is unhealthy both for plants and animals. Anerobic bacteria can quickly take hold in these conditions. The only solution is to replace the affected naturalistic vivarium substrates with new ones.
