ESS was replacing hazardous, corrosive alkaline cleaners before anyone really cared how safe or "green" they were. ESS realized if process parts could not be painted or plated or boxed because they were not clean enough, it did not matter how safe for people or environment the cleaner was.
So we simply developed the best cleaners.
The theory was simple: if a cleaner works as well or better, costs the same or less, and by the way, is safer people and environment ? then that is a win for everyone!
That is still the ESS philosophy today. Cleaning does not have to be hazardous. With neutral cleaning technology, hazardous cleaners are now virtually obsolete for many many cleaning applications.

In order to keep from etching the surface of soft metals, alkaline cleaners usually contain silicates that leaves a micro-thin layer on the metal surface to protect it from etching. Since neutral cleaners have a neutral pH and cannot chemically etch soft metals, no silicates are needed (leaving cleaner parts with less chance for residue).
- ESS neutrals do not leave a white film or white rust on parts.

Back in 1993 when no one new what “green” cleaners were, ESS was replacing hazardous, corrosive cleaners used in process washing.
