On February 11, 1858, Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to a 14-year-old girl from the Lourdes countryside. When asked by her mother about the miracle, Bernadette Soubirous confessed that she saw the "Virgin Mary" in a cave in Massabielle, about a mile from town, while she was collecting firewood, accompanied by her sister and a friend.
