Selecting the Right Cable for Your Project


Category 6 Supports 1, 2.5, & 5 Gbit/s speeds up to 328ft and 10 Gbit/s up to 180ft. Alternatives: Spend less by using Cat 5e for applications which require less than 2.5 Gbit/s. Upgrade to Cat 6A for applications which require 10 Gbit/s speeds up to 328ft or to future proof your installation.	Unshielded (UTP) Suitable for applications where there is no risk of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Alternatives: Upgrade to a shielded (FTP) cable for runs near high voltage wiring or other sources of EMI such as electric motors.	Riser Rated CMR rated for installation in walls and risers (between floors) in both residential and commercial buildings. Alternatives: Residential projects: spend less by using an in-wall (CM) rated cable. Commercial projects: upgrade to a plenum (CMP) rated cable for air handling spaces. Outdoor projects: use an outdoor (CMX) rated cable for exposure to sunlight or a Direct Burial rated cable for underground installation.

Bare Copper Conductors

Copper is the industry standard wiring material for a reason. Compared to aluminum, its higher conductivity translates into improved signal transmission and more performance headroom at a given length. Coppers lower electrical resistance means that it generates less heat, which is a crucial factor in preventing the degradation and breakdown of conductor insulation. Finally, copper is more durable than aluminum and wont break while being flexed or terminated.
