In a stroke of genius, on Christmas day in 1965, Sherman Poppen took two children’s skis and bound them together for his daughters and they loved it! Go, Dad! After more tinkering, he designed a single-piece board equipped with a rope for steering. The neighborhood kids clamored for his fun, new invention. His wife suggested combining the words “snow” and “surfer” and the iconic SNURFER was born.
