A counted cross stitch pattern of Venus or Aphrodite, the classical goddess of love, was said to have been born of sea foam. Here she is shown being carried to shore on a scallop shell, blown by Zephyr, the god of the west wind and symbol of spiritual passions. Another goddess is carried by Zephyr, clasping him about his waist, perhaps Chloris, whose domain was flowers, suggested by the rain of flowers about them. Venus is greeted on shore by one of the Horae, goddesses of the seasons, who hands her a flowered cloak. (about 1482) This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
