There are 3 layers of materials to achieve the utmost in warmth for the coolest temps: Wool top adds extra warmth & acts as water resistant shell: once wet it becomes almost impenetrable to water. Even under light rain Soviet Army soldiers head stayed dry & warm. Cotton lining is padded with thick layers of cotton. Thick & soft 50% wool 50% artificial fur keeps the ears & neck warm.
