●The transfer case motor is a part of the transfer case that allows the vehicle to switch into and out of four-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive allows all four wheels of a vehicle to receive power from the engine. This helps with traction, and is commonly used in wet, snowy, off-road, or elevated areas.
●Symptoms of a bad transfer case shift motor include difficulty shifting, jumping out of LO gear, grinding noises coming from the area of the transfer case, leaking dark fluids, or low lubricant fluid levels.
●During installation, the shift motor should not be powered up before installing. If your truck failed in 4WD, simply turn the transfer case gear to the 2WD position, then change the dash switch to 2-Wheel Drive. After you bolt up the motor, you can then plug in the connector. Most models will also require removing one wire from the old motor connector and installing it into the new motor connector.
