Although the name Papier Mache is French, the method was not adopted in France until the 17th century. The technique was originally used in the Orient as far back as 200 BC.
Today, many paper mache items are created in the villages of the Philippines. For decades, Factory Direct Craft has purchased paper mache that is handcrafted by Philippine families.
