Feature

●NEEDLE & WET FELTING: The perfect roving wool for felting. Merino wool has soft fibers that are excellent for fine details, crafting and as core wool. Also great for wool felt dryer balls. One 1lb wool roving bulk makes 9 - 12 dryer balls to keep your laundry fresh and wrinkle free
●SPINNING, KNITTING, WEAVING: This chunky wool yarn takes dye well and is a dream to spin on a spinning wheel or drop spindle, blend with dyed roving to make beautiful rolags. Works great as carded wool stuffing. Arm knit as-is, felt or spin, or weave on a tapestry loom into beautiful woven wall hangings
●CHUNKY, SOFT & DURABLE: With Staple Length: 3-4 inches (roughly 90 mm) and Micron Average: 23-26 roving from merino wool feels very soft and gentle to the touch and is ideal for knitting garments for direct skin contact. This roving is also the perfect jumbo yarn for chunky knit blankets, pet beds, rugs and mats
●COMBED & CLEANED: Washed, Carded and combed, we prep all our wool to minimize pre-felting and pre-drafting. The unspun wool fibers are gently washed before the carding, combing, packaging and inspection process, to ensure no harsh animal smell, or vegetable matter remains and your wool arrives ready for use
●100% NATURAL & ECO FRIENDLY: Great wool comes from sheep that are healthy and handled with care. That’s why our wool is sourced ethically from responsible producers and countries committed to only environmentally friendly and sustainable non-mulesing production practices

Why Merino Wool?

Merino Wool for your Next-to-Skin Projects

Merino wool is the softest and finest wool in the world. This is because the sheep wool fibers (coats) are the thinnest of any sheep. With an average diameter of fewer than 25 microns the wool is flexible and less likely to scratch against skin. Therefore it has been the preferred choice of sheep for next to skin clothing manufacturers across the world.

  • Renewable: Just like humans need a haircut, every year merino sheep need to be sheared for their health and we have worked to ensure they are not harmed in the harvesting of wool.
  • Safe for Environment: If it is time to dispose of your project wool naturally decomposes in soil over time, releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth, acting like a natural fertilizer.
  • Fiber Length: Merino wool fibers are naturally long and stronger than other breeds. This is important because if the garment is made of too many short fibers it is prone to rip, tear and wear faster.
  • Natural Crimp ? Merino wool has a natural crimp to it, meaning it has more stretchiness to it, increasing the resilience of the yarn fabric. It also increases loft, making the wearable garment warmer.

Arm or Hand Knitting

Arm knitting is an easy and popular approach for beginners. For this technique, needles are not necessary! Also called arm weaving, or arm crocheting, this technique is often used for larger-scale projects such as a blanket, rugs, scarves or pillows. When you are knitting with your arms a larger scale yarn or roving is needed. Because of its hypoallergenic quality, our merino wool makes for the perfect next-to-skin arm-knitting project.

Needle Felting & Wet Felting

Needle felting is a process that involves sticking a needle repeatedly to shape and sculpt a piece of wool into a desired shape or form. It is a popular method for creating small animal figurines due to the wool’s similar features of fur. Merino wool works with this craft as a furry detail because it has combed fibers that are all going in the same direction and will give it a fluffy finish.

Wet felting is a more extensive process and involves combining water and soap to create a piece of fabric. It is often used to create two-dimensional artwork. Other steps are involved using heat, moisture, and changing ph levels.

Spinning

Merino wool is a fine wool and can be a popular beginner spinner wool fibre due to its fiber length and strength. Our merino wool has been cleaned and processed into a continuous length to ensure the fibers are all aligned. These wools tend to be soft to wear, easy - but sometimes a bit slippery - to spin, they take dye well, tend to look matte (not shiny) and they felt easily. The staple length may be a bit shorter than other wools, as well. If you’re looking for fiber for next to skin wear, or for someone who is sensitive to itchy wool, fine wool may be a good place to start.

combcomb

This merino wool roving is thoroughly washed, combed, and carded making it ready for use upon delivery. The wool fibers are aligned, easy to work with, and are free of any harsh animal smells or vegetable matter.
