Picea glauca densata (Black Hills Spruce) : A big evergreen tree with a central stem and a wide pyramidal to conical crown formed by thick, ascending lateral branches from the ground up. It has a denser, more compact habit and a slower growth rate than the ordinary white spruce. It has a shallow, fiberous root system that spreads widely. The ashy grey or brown bark is thin, fissured, and split into thin flaky scales. The leaf colour ranges from deep green to bluish green, and the needles are individually connected.
