The Beadsmith’s Miter Cutting Vise is fantastic for metal and wire workers, as well as jewelry makers who create with those mediums. Made from tool grade steel, our vise/jigs are designed to smooth sharp edges and create even edges on wire. You can also securely hold tubing for filing, sawing or sanding. The slots on the base of the vise allow you to form a 45°, 60°, or a 90° angle on a piece of metal. The Beadsmith carries two styles: a Swiss model, as well as a more compact design, with a single screw for tightening.

Using a miter cutting vise is easy. File on this larger flat edge. Insert your metal into either slot. Lay one side of the metal flat and level. Leave a small strip of metal hanging out; this is the part you will file. Next, tighten the screw(s) until the inserted metal cannot be moved. It is important that the metal lines up flat in the jig. Now you can file your metal. This also works for creating a straight cut on wire or smoothing down edges on precious metal clays. Metalsmiths and jewelry designers use a miter jig for other projects such as wire wrapping to create consistent loops.
