15. Gyehwa - Abandoned love - There was a gisaeng named Gyehwa, who had a good relationship with Choi, who was assigned as an official in Samcheok, Gangwon-do. Gyehwa was a woman of beautiful appearance, graceful personality and integrity. Choi took Gyehwa as his concubine and lived with her in Anheung-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, and one day, he had to move to another province for official duties. Perhaps, worrying that his position would be embarrassed, Choi ordered Gyehwa to return to Samcheok first. However, on her way back to her hometown, the young men of Anheung did a terrible thing to Gyehwa, and she thought she could not serve many men, so threw herself into the river from a lofty rock in Anheung. It is said that the residents of Anheung erected a monument of the virtuous woman to commemorate the spirit of Gyehwa, and called the rock she jumped from as Samcheok Rock.

18. Yuji(Mid-Joseon period) - Thoughtful Love - Yuji was a young gisaeng who took care of Yulgok when he was assigned as an governor of Hwanghae-do. The age difference between them was so big that Yulgok adored Yuji as if she was his daughter. After Yulgok returned to Hanyang, they reunited at Haeju government office nine years later. Yuji expressed her heart there, but Yulgok did not accept it. Later, whenever Yulgok went to his sister’s home to recuperate, he stopped by Haeju to meet Yuji and talked with her. One night, Yuji visited Yulgok, where he was staying alone overnight in the river village. Abandoning woman in a dangerous night was against the principles of the benevolence Yulgok had supported all his life, and sleeping with Yuji was against righteousness. Thus, Yulgok spent the night with her in the same room but different bedding, and returned Yuji. While spending that night, Yulgok wrote a heartfelt poem (Yuji) and gave it to her. This is a very considerate scene.
